| The Singapore Badminton Association (SBA) believes that the National Training Centre
will provide a training environment that will allow elite shuttlers with the potential
and commitment to train together regularly to spur one another to greater heights.
The National Training Centre is not a place to pursue one’s leisurely interest in badminton.
The training weekly requirement of minimum of 5 out of 7
sessions at the National Training Centre is imposed as we believe this is the minimum
requirement for our young shuttlers to be on par with our counterparts in the region.
While we recognize that individual shuttler progresses
at different rate, we try to control its causes. We believe that if shuttlers in the
team train at different frequency and coupled with the different progress rate of each
shuttler, the standard of play in the team may vary so greatly that it would be hard
for the coach(es) to give sufficient attention to each shuttler on their progress.
The shuttlers who train less may have a more difficult time catching up with those who
train more regularly. In the process, injuries may occur.
To minimize all these problems, the SBA proposes
that such shuttlers who might have other priorities and commitments, train at
SBA-affiliated training centres , at their schools if their schools have badminton
training programmes or at SBA-affiliated clubs. These are alternative avenues whereby
these shuttlers could train at a pace more suitable for them.
