Celebratory Dinner for historic win by Shinta & Yao Lei in LNSO 2010

On 30 July 2010, Singapore Badminton Association President Mr Lee Yi Shyan who is also Minister of State (Trade and Industry and Manpower) presented cheques for $25,000 each to Shinta Mulia Sari and Yao Lei as part of SBA’s Performance Cash Incentive programme, for winning the women’s doubles event at the Li Ning Singapore Open Super Series on 20 June. The duo also received $7,500 each from their personal sponsor Sunrise and Co. Pte Ltd. In addition, the world no. 8 women’s doubles pair received an assortment of gifts worth a total of $2,150 each from various corporations. Chen Jiayuan who won the Li Ning Singapore International Series women’s singles event last Saturday received $2,000 from SBA and $1,000 from Sunrise & Co. Pte Ltd as well as gifts worth $360. All these in addition to the prize money of US$15,800 for Shinta and Yao Lei for winning the BWF Level 2 Super Series while Chen Jiayuan won S$592 for her victory in the BWF Level 4 International Series.
The cheque and gift presentations took place at the players’ celebratory dinner organised by SBA at the Chinese Swimming Club’s Tung Lok Classics restaurant. The dinner was also used to raise funds for the new Player Development Fund II covering Players’ Performance Cash Incentives, Competition Expenses, Salaries and Allowances for full time training as well as training facility and sports science support. A total of S$38,000 was raised for this PDF II through the Celebratory Dinner.
Commenting on Shinta and Yao Lei’s victory, Mr Lee Yi Shyan said that if he had to choose between Victory and Fighting Spirit; he would choose the latter. He urged all national players to display grit and determination as they take on future challenges, including in the upcoming World Championships, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
